Writ in High Court Seeking Direction to Stop Commercial Activities in Residential Areas in Dhaka City

News Desk: A writ has been filed in the High Court seeking directions to stop commercial business (activities) in residential areas including Bailey Road in Dhaka City. At the same time, directions were also sought to compensate the victims of Bailey Road.

Apart from this, instructions have been sought to form a committee to investigate the incident at Bailey Road.

On Sunday (March 3), the writ was filed by lawyer Yunus Ali Akand in the High Court Division of the Supreme Court.

He said that the writ will be presented for hearing in the High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zeenat Haque.

In the writ, the Cabinet Secretary, Home and Public Works Secretary, Home Secretary, Rajuk Chairman, Inspector General of Police, Mayors of two cities of Dhaka, Green Cozy Cottage and Amin Mohammad Real Estate Property have been made defendants.

Last Thursday (February 29) at around 10:15 pm, the fire service received a report of a fire at a restaurant called Kacchi Bhai on Bailey Road. The fire service was able to bring the fire under control at 11:50 pm with 13 units working there. 46 people including women, men and children died in this fire. There are people of different ages including journalists, lawyers, teachers, students.
