Life imprisonment for child killer in Dinajpur

Dinajpur Correspondent: A person named Mumtaz Uddin has been sentenced to life imprisonment and 3 others have been acquitted in the case of child murder in Dinajpur. Judge Shyam Sundar Roy of Additional District and Dual Judge Court 2 announced the verdict on Tuesday afternoon.

Convicted Mumtaz Uddin (52) is the son of deceased Mir Uddin of Paschim Khajapur village of Fulbari Upazila in Dinajpur. Sister Morjina Begum (55), son Mostafizur Rahman (32), daughter-in-law Jasmine Ara Ruby (30) were acquitted.

 Quoting from the case, Assistant APP Advocate Shah Mostafizur Rahman said on behalf of the government, on July 8, 2018, Miraj Kazi, the 5-year-old son of Mahbub Kazi, a resident of Paschim Khajapur village of Fulbari Upazila, went missing while playing with other children at his neighbor Mumtaz Uddin's house. During the investigation, the accused, Mumtaz Uddin, tried to divert the facts by giving misleading information. Along with that, the family members run the evening of the child till 2 am. At one point in the conversation, he suggests looking for the body in the sink. The next day, the family members found the child's bloody body in the neighbor's sink. The police came and made a report of the dead body. In addition to being stabbed in the stomach, the concerned people found signs of killing Miraj Kazi by suffocating her.

Mahbub Kazi, the father of Miraj Kazi, the victim of the plaintiff's murder, alleged that Mumtaz Uddin and other family members committed the murder to eliminate the inheritance of his property.

On the basis of evidence in the court, the learned judge sentenced the accused, Mumtaz Uddin, to life imprisonment and 6 months of rigorous imprisonment without paying a fine of Tk 25,000. 3 others were acquitted.
