In Ulipur due to land-acquisition dispute, Kupye injured, 1 arrested

Kurigram Correspondent:  The police have arrested a person for stabbing and injuring him due to a dispute over land in Ulipur of Kurigram. The incident took place in Gogai Peer village of Thetrai Union.

According to the case, Shahanur Begum (55), wife of Abdul Gaffar of Gogai Pier village of Thetrai Union of the upazila, had a dispute with Abul Hossain (52), son of Heshar Mahmud of the same area, for a long time. On the morning of the incident on April 15, Shahanur went to measure the land. Accused Abul Hossain and his companions prevented the land measurement with sticks, sharp spears and iron rods in a pre-planned manner. When Shahanur's husband Abdul Gaffar and son Shafiul Alam Sooja protested, Abul Hossain and his companions cut Abdul Gaffar on the head and hands, causing serious bloody injuries. When Shahanur and his son Shafiul Alam Sooja came forward to save their husband, they were also beaten and injured. Later the locals rescued them and admitted them to the Upazila Health Complex. The doctor on duty referred Abdul Gaffar among the injured to Kurigram Sadar Hospital for better treatment. In this incident, Shahanur Begum filed a case at the police station as the plaintiff.

On Monday (April 22) afternoon, Ulipur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Golam Mortuza said that the main accused in the incident has been arrested and sent to jail.
