BNP presidential candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has described former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia as the main architect behind the party’s popularity.
He made the remark at a prayer gathering held on Saturday (August 15) to mark Khaleda Zia’s birth anniversary. The event was organised on the ground floor of the BNP central office in Naya Paltan, Dhaka.
Mirza Fakhrul said Khaleda Zia, who was born on this day, became deeply connected with the fate of Bangladesh. Through repeated struggles and leadership, she helped bring the country back to democracy and participated in efforts to develop Bangladesh.
“The main architect behind the BNP becoming a true political party is Khaleda Zia,” Fakhrul said. He added that she remained committed to her principles despite years of struggle and firmly carried the party forward. Her work and inspiration, he said, continue to motivate BNP leaders and activists.
Expressing his determination to build the BNP as a modern democratic party, Fakhrul said, “On this day, we will all pledge that we want to build the BNP as a truly modern democratic party capable of genuinely leading Bangladesh.”
He said that now that the BNP has formed the government, people expect it to work in the coming days to implement Khaleda Zia’s political vision, including her “Vision 2030” and the party’s subsequent 31-point programme.
“We will strengthen the party and preserve the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh,” he said.
Mirza Fakhrul also prayed for the eternal peace of Khaleda Zia’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to grant her a place in heaven. He also prayed for BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman, whom he described as the declarer of Bangladesh’s independence.
The prayer and milad mahfil was moderated by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. BNP National Standing Committee members Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, a freedom fighter, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Dr Abdul Moin Khan also addressed the gathering.
The prayer was conducted by Maulana Abul Hossain, member secretary of the Jatiyatabadi Olama Dal.
BNP Joint Secretary Generals Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, and Assistant Secretary for Social Welfare Kazi Abul Bashar, among others, were present at the event.
