Diplomatic Correspondent: Ajit Singh, High Commissioner of Canada to Bangladesh, has reaffirmed Canada’s continued commitment to inclusive and sustainable development in the Chittagong Hill Tracts during a courtesy call on Dipen Dewan, the newly appointed Minister of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs.
During the meeting, Canada highlighted its longstanding development partnership with the Chittagong Hill Tracts region, noting that it has contributed approximately $65 million since 2008 to support development efforts.
Canadian assistance has focused on building resilient communities, improving access to essential services, and promoting local development through collaboration with organizations such as United Nations Development Programme and United Nations Population Fund.
Canada also reiterated its support for the accreditation of non-MPO schools in the region and emphasized the importance of stronger cooperation on climate resilience, community health services, and livelihood opportunities, particularly for women, youth, indigenous peoples, and marginalized communities.
The Canadian High Commission expressed its eagerness to continue working closely with the Government of Bangladesh to help ensure a peaceful, prosperous, and inclusive future for all residents of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
