Philippines Extends Humanitarian Aid to Support Sri Lanka’s Post-Cyclone Recovery Efforts ‎

Diplomatic Correspondent: The Government of the Philippines has extended humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka to support ongoing reconstruction and recovery efforts following the widespread destruction caused by Cyclone Ditwah in November 2025.

‎Her Excellency Nina P. Cainglet, Non-Resident Philippine Ambassador to Sri Lanka, formally handed over a ceremonial check to Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath on April 21, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo.

‎During the meeting, Foreign Minister Herath expressed sincere appreciation to the Government and people of the Philippines for their solidarity and continued support during Sri Lanka’s recovery process.
‎
‎Cyclone Ditwah made landfall on Sri Lanka’s eastern coast on November 28, 2025, bringing severe flooding and landslides across all 25 districts of the country. The disaster is regarded as one of the most devastating in recent decades, triggering the worst flooding Sri Lanka has experienced in over 20 years.

‎As of April 2026, Sri Lanka remains in an active recovery phase, with international partners continuing to contribute to reconstruction and humanitarian assistance efforts aimed at restoring affected communities and infrastructure
