2 units of Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant resume power generation

Dinajpur Correspondent: Two units of the Bora Pukuria Thermal Power Plant in Dinajpur have resumed power generation after being reactivated using domestic components. 240 to 250 megawatts of electricity is being added to the national grid every day. The power generation capacity of the three units of the plant is 525 megawatts. All three units were shut down one by one due to mechanical faults. While two units are operational, the other unit has been idle for 4 and a half years.

It is learnt that the plant's 275 MW unit 3 started generating electricity at 10 pm on February 28. Earlier, the 125 MW unit 1 resumed power generation on February 22. The restored units 1 and 3 are adding at least 250 MW of electricity to the national grid every day.

Of these, 180 to 200 MW of electricity is being generated daily from Unit 3 with a capacity of 275 MW, and 65 to 70 MW from Unit 1 with a capacity of 125 MW. On the other hand, Unit 2 with a capacity of 125 MW has been idle for 4 and a half years since 2020 due to mechanical faults.

Abubakar Siddique, Chief Engineer of Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant, said that after repairing the local equipment, 2 units of the plant have been activated. As the generated electricity is added to the national grid, the suffering of electricity-dependent irrigation equipment, industrial factories and housing has been eliminated. Chinese engineers from the contractor company Harbil are working to activate the 125-megawatt unit number 2 after completing the overhaul.

 2,600 metric tons of coal are being burned daily to keep the two units running.
