Thakurgaon Representative: In Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila 21 Unions, farmers had to worry about irrigating the land due to power outage. Many times the crop would be destroyed without irrigation. Farmers' suicides were a regular occurrence in order to produce crops on loan. Everything has become modern with the evolution of time. The electrical system of the country has also been modernized. Also, the use of solar panels has increased.

Farmers are increasingly interested in solar as there is no additional cost or hassle. Farmers have completely shaken off the extra worry about electricity. They don't have to worry about the loss of water pump due to sudden loadshedding.

On Wednesday (March 19), farmers were seen planting boro by using solar panels on the land in the area called Araji Jharga near Thakurgaon-Baliadangi road.

According to the sources of the district agriculture department, the target of planting boro on 62 thousand 350 hectares of land in Thakurgaon district this year has been set. Boro saplings have already been planted on 58 thousand 480 hectares of land.

A farmer named Sadekul Islam of Molani village of Sadar Upazila said that there is no problem in providing water through solar. No need for extra people. But earlier when I used to give water with shallow machine, extra people were needed. The cost was also high. Along with that, a lot of labor had to be done to water through the shallows.

He also said, now I am irrigating the land through solar. There is less trouble here. Currently, 1 bigha of land is being irrigated with solar panels at a cost of 2 thousand rupees. On the other hand, it costs 3 thousand taka to irrigate with shallow machine.

Rahela Begum, Aizul Haque, Sikendar Ali and some other farmers said that because of solar, boro paddy is being planted at a low cost. Earlier we had to take water with cereal. Now water is being taken as desired. There was fear of oil in shallow machines, machine theft and damage. Because of solar you don't have to worry about these anymore.

Meanwhile, according to the Department of Agriculture, farmers are benefiting by irrigating the land through these solar panels. Along with that, their production cost is decreasing. As a result, the farmers of this district will benefit a lot by selling Boro paddy.

Thakurgaon District Agriculture Extension Department Deputy Director Sirajul Islam said that farmers are irrigating the land with the help of solar panels during Boro season. By using solar panels, the cost of the farmer has been reduced by a third. Due to this, the production cost of farmers has decreased.
