Road blockade by workers to protest factory closure without payment of dues

Narayanganj Correspondent: In Siddhirganj of Narayanganj, the workers have protested by blocking the Adamji-Chashadha road in protest against the closure of the steel mill without paying the due salary. On Monday (March 18) at four o'clock in the afternoon, the workers of Sharmin Steel Mill in Syedpara area of ​​Siddhirganj blocked this road. During this time, severe traffic jam was created on both sides of the road.

It is known that after going to the ground, they started this movement with 10 points including immediate start of illegally closed Sharmin Steel Mills Limited, payment of arrears of wages, issuance of appointment letter-identity card, termination of worker retrenchment and torture. They blocked the road and stopped the traffic for about half an hour. Later the police came to the spot and removed them from the road.

Talking to the factory worker Mizan Mia, it is known that around hundred workers used to work in Sharmil Steel Mill. Their salaries have been arrears for the past two months. The steel mill was closed in February last year without payment of their salaries. Owners have repeatedly promised to pay their salaries, but they are still not paying them. As a result, the workers have to struggle with their families.

So they were forced to take a position on the road. In this regard, no one from the owner of Sharmin Steel Mill was found at the spot. ASI Farid of Shilpanchal Police (Zone-4) Narayanganj, who came to the spot, said that the passengers were suffering due to the agitation by blocking the road. We explained them and removed them from the road.

We will talk to the owners about explaining their salary. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Siddhirganj Police Station Abu Bakar Siddique said that the workers started this movement to demand the arrears of salary. As soon as we get the news, a team of us goes to the spot. At present the situation and traffic is normal.
