Former member of extremist group shot dead in Pabna

Pabna Correspondent: Miscreants shot dead a former member of an extremist group in Goeshpur of Pabna Sadar Upazila.

The incident took place on Sunday (March 17) around 11 pm at Maniknagar Bazar intersection of Goeshpur Union of the upazila.

Deceased Abdur Razzaq Sheikh (38) son of deceased Azizul Sheikh of Harinarayanpur village of Goeshpur Union.

He was a member of the banned extremist organization East Bengal Proletarian Party. He surrendered along with other extremists to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at the Pabna District Stadium in 2019.

Eyewitnesses said that Abdur Razzak went to Maniknagar market for tea after Taraweeh prayer after breaking the fast in the evening. Then he sat in a tea shop there. At that time, 5/6 masked youths came on two motorcycles and shot him three times in a row and ran away. Locals rescued him in serious condition and took him to Pabna General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Locals also said that Abdur Razzak was a member of an extremist group. He surrendered to the government in 2019. After that he was living normally. Maybe he was brutally killed because of an earlier dispute.

Confirming the matter, Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police Masud Alam said that the deceased Abdur Razzak was a member of the banned extremist organization East Bengal Probation Party. Surrendered to Home Minister Asaduzzaman at Pabna District Stadium in 2019. Additional police were deployed there soon after the incident. The body was recovered and sent to Pabna General Hospital morgue. It is not yet known who killed him. The matter is being seriously investigated.
