Hijra exchange in Naogaon

Naogaon Representative: Bachar Asha Cultural Organization has been working with transgenders since 2003 with the motto "We are also human, our hope is healthy, we hope to live like beautiful people".

In order to inform government, private and journalists about the SCG project and to ensure that the beneficiaries receive various services, the 20-month project is being implemented in Rajshahi, Naogaon and Chapainawabganj districts by Nowhantar Bachar Asha Cultural Organization of Paba Upazila of Rajshahi in collaboration with Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST).

In line with this, a discussion meeting was held with government officials and various NGO workers in Naogaon to ensure the empowerment of the backward communities and their participation in the development process of Bangladesh and to ensure access to services. Sadar Upazila Executive Officer SM Robin Sheesh spoke as the chief guest at the meeting under the chairmanship of Mostafa Sarkar Bijli, president of Bachar Asha Cultural Organization, and project coordinator Akhtaruzzaman, at the Sadar Upazila conference room on Thursday afternoon.

Apart from this, upazila administration officials of social service, cooperative, election and primary education department, various NGO workers, social workers, media workers, hijra and other professions participated in the meeting. In the meeting, the hijras presented their various problems to the government officials and discussed the services they can get from the government. The speakers said that the government recognized the transgender community as a gender in 2014.

After that the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various steps to integrate this backward Hijra community into the mainstream of society. If the concerned offices of every upazila of the country work with transparency to quickly implement the steps taken by the Prime Minister, then the day is not far when Hijras will be represented in the mainstream of society after being educated in higher education.
