Anti-trafficking meeting held in Faridpur

Faridpur Correspondent: Awareness workshop held in Faridpur to avoid the risk of human trafficking among farming and fishing families due to climate change.

Under the Bangladesh Program of Ind Modern Slavery (BPEMS) Agrajatra Climate Change project, this program was conducted to raise awareness, train and create employment among farmers and fishermen of 27 villages in 9 unions of 4 upazilas of Faridpur with the funding of the American organization Winrock International.  

On Monday afternoon, a meeting organized by the NGO organization TMSS was held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Yashin Kabir presided over the meeting and delivered a speech by TMSS project officer Mukul Ali. TMSS Project Manager Tuhin Islam presented the key note of the project. Winrock International Regional Coordinator Syed Abdus Sadiq Ahnaf Tahmid and TMSS Mill Officer Imad Uddin discussed the project. Project discussions say that when farmers and fishermen become unemployed as a result of climate change, they seek employment and become victims of human trafficking.

Farmers and districts of Faridpur region have started their awareness activities in Faridpur region so that they do not become victims of such traffickers. They will create awareness as well as provide training in various trades, skill development and alternative livelihoods for employment of farmers and fishermen.

District Education Officer Bishnu Pad Ghoshal, Technical Training Center Principal Engineer Md Akhtaruzzaman, District Social Service Office Deputy Director ASM Ali Ahsan, District Women Affairs Deputy Director Masouda Hossain, District Employment and Manpower Office Assistant Director Abu Md Rezaul Karim, Blast Coordinator Add. Shipra Goswami, Senior Scientific Officer of Soil Research and Development Institution, Agriculturist Md. Tanveer Hossain and heads of various public-private and NGO organizations were present.
