In a message given today (March 6) on the occasion of 'Historic March 7' on Thursday, he said, 'On this day in 1971, the undisputed leader of the Bengali nation, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave a thunderous call for independence at the then Race Course Maidan.

The entire Bengali nation was mesmerized on that day by the great political poet Bangabandhu's 'Amar Kavita'. Non-cooperation movement started from March 1 under the leadership of Bangabandhu. The President said, "Bangabandhu, in that speech shining with unique eloquence and political wisdom, united the emotions, dreams and aspirations of Bengalis in a single thread and declared in a thunderous voice, 'This time's struggle is the struggle for our liberation, this time's struggle is the struggle for freedom.'"
