India-Bangladesh bilateral defense cooperation to be boosted: Prannoy Verma

Bogra Correspondence:  Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Prannoy Verma said that bilateral defense cooperation will be elevated to the next level by building joint ventures in the production sector for the development of India-Bangladesh defense industry cooperation. India is willing to share a wide range of defense manufacturing capabilities with Bangladesh, including state-of-the-art technology.

Prannoy Verma said the above while addressing a seminar on Indian Defense Equipment (SIDE)-2024 organized by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka on Tuesday to develop defense industry cooperation. At the seminar, the High Commissioner highlighted the progress of the Indian defense industry over the past decade under Prime Minister Modi's philosophy of "Make in India" and "Make for the World", which has encouraged unprecedented investment in the Indian defense manufacturing sector and led to growing Indian defense exports.

The High Commissioner described SIDE 2024 as a reflection of the Indian defense industry's interest in partnering with Bangladesh and a sign of taking India-Bangladesh defense cooperation to the next level, including the utilization of the US$ 500 million Defense Line of Credit provided by the Government of India to the Government of Bangladesh. In the seminar, Bangladesh Armed Forces Principal Staff Officer Lt. Gen. And. Shamim. 

Several of India's leading defense manufacturing companies from both the public and private sectors participated in the event and showcased a range of 'Made in India' defense equipment, technologies and platforms. Also, representatives of Bangladesh Armed Forces as well as paramilitary and police forces were present in the seminar.
