At least 39 killed in Chinese shop fire

International Desk: At least 39 people were killed in a fire in a shop in China. Another 9 people were seriously injured. The incident happened on Wednesday in Jinyu, Jiangxi province in the central part of the country. According to the report, a fire broke out on the ground floor of a shop in Jinyu, Jiangxi at 3:24 pm local time on Wednesday (January 24). As of writing the report, 39 people were killed and 9 people were injured in the accident. China's state-backed Global Times published a video of the incident.

Where black smoke is billowing from inside the building and people are seen jumping from the windows. The BBC, however, could not independently verify the authenticity of the video footage. Video footage released by Chinese media showed several fire trucks and other vehicles lined up in front of the store. A fire broke out in a school dormitory in central China's Henan province a few days ago, killing 13 children. Later, the police arrested seven staff members of the school for negligence.
