12 students killed in boat capsize in Gujarat, India

International Desk: 12 school students and two teachers died after a boat capsized in a lake in Vadodara, Gujarat, India. The accident happened on Thursday. A total of 20 people were rescued during the operation. Confirming the death toll, Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi told ANI that the Chief Minister has ordered a thorough investigation to ensure justice and action is being taken against the accused. Two accused have been arrested and are being investigated. Harsh Sanghvi also said that an FIR has been registered and teams have been formed to arrest the rest of the accused. According to Hindustan Times, the students are from New Sunrise School in Vadodara.

Students from that school were taken to the picnic. The accident happened on Thursday afternoon. Initially, the local residents started the rescue work. They rescued some students. Eyewitnesses claimed that none of the students or teachers had life jackets on. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel expressed grief over the incident. He said that the death of children due to boat capsizing in Vadodara's Horni Lake is very heartbreaking. May the souls of the innocent children who died rest in peace. My deepest condolences to his family at this time of bereavement. The chief minister also said that he has ordered to provide immediate help to the victims of the accident.
