Landslides in northwestern Colombia's Choco region, death toll rises to 37

International Desk: At least 37 people were killed in a landslide in the Choco area of ​​the northwest of the South American country of Colombia. The accident happened on Friday (local time). According to a CNN report, an official from the governor's office of the Choco department region said that several landslides have damaged the road that connects the cities of Medellin and Quibdo. So it is temporarily closed. The official added that "many people" abandoned their vehicles and "took shelter in a house" near the municipality of Carmen de Atrato on the road.

But unfortunately they were buried in a landslide. As far as it is known, 37 or more people have died. Vice President Francia Marquise Xay said the landslides were caused by severe storms that lasted for about 24 hours. About 30 people were injured in the accident.
