The supply crisis for much-needed 155mm shells dates back to the start of the Israel-Hamas war. Meanwhile, Ukrainian parliamentarians have also warned of a critical shortage of front-line ammunition.

"Our supplies are down," Zelensky told reporters in Kiev last Thursday. This is life now. As everyone is fighting for survival. The US stockpile of 155mm shells was mainly for Ukraine. Now, however, it is being sent to Israel. In 2022, the United States sent 2.2 million 155 millimeter rounds to Kiev, one year and eight months after Russia began attacking Ukraine.

Ukraine consumes 240,000 shells per month, which is much more than the monthly production of the United States. The European Union treasury is also empty. The Ukrainian army regularly reports a shortage of ammunition on the war front.
