Nobel laureate Dr. ACC case against 13 people including Yunus

News desk: Nobel medalist Dr. accused of embezzling Tk 25 crore 22 lakh from Grameen Telecom. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against 13 people including Muhammad Yunus.

ACC Director General (Administration) Rezwanur Rahman gave this information in a press conference on Tuesday. The case was filed by ACC Deputy Director Gulshan Anwar. In the briefing, Rezwanur Rahman said that a complaint was made to the ACC regarding the embezzlement of Grameen Telecom's Workers' Profit Participation Fund (WPPF).

Later, the ACC investigated according to the law and rules against the chairman of Grameen Telecom along with the board members and found the truth of embezzlement and money laundering of Tk. Professor Dr. The case against 13 people, including Muhammad Yunus, was filed in ACC's Dhaka Integrated District Office-1 under Sections 409, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 109 of the Penal Code and Section 4(2)(3) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act-2012.

A three-member committee was constituted to investigate the complaint. Syed Iqbal Hossain, the then director of the agency, was appointed as the supervising officer in the ACC committee. Other members of the committee are ACC Deputy Director Gulshan Anwar Pradhan, Assistant Director Jasmine Akhtar and Noore Alam Siddiqui. ACC interrogated 6 people including the MD at various times in August last year to investigate the complaint. During the search phase, the topic of Nobel laureate economist Muhammad Yunus comes up again and again.

In response to a question at the ACC head office on November 23 last year, Managing Director (MD) of Grameen Telecom, Nazmul Islam, told the media that Dr. Muhammad Yunus has no personal involvement. At that time, the MD of Grameen Telecom said that all decisions have been made through the board, with nothing personally. Yunus is not involved. In addition, according to the rules, workers' money has been discounted.
