People's lives are disrupted due to extreme heat and load shedding in Manikganj

Manikganj Correspondent:  In Saturiya Upazila of Manikganj, the life of the people has been disturbed due to frequent load shedding of electricity along with intense heat. Apart from disrupting the normal life of people, the production in small and big factories of the upazila is being disrupted. Due to the lack of irrigation, the crop has been destroyed and there has been a risk of loss. Students' education has been disrupted and people's activities have come to a standstill. The number of patients in the hospital is increasing.

In the 9 Unions of the Upazila, people have become exhausted due to the extreme heat of the last few days. Yet again hourly loadshedding. People from all levels of the upazila are getting angry day by day. Several lakh people of the upazila are suffering. Can't sleep peacefully at night. Students are not able to study properly at night.

Small and medium industries, business establishments, medical, banking services, education and household activities established in remote areas including upazila headquarters are being severely disrupted. There has been an extreme stagnation in electricity-dependent businesses. Due to lack of electricity, the farmers of the upazila are not able to irrigate the land properly.

Several agricultural laborers working in bhutra field in Kushtia area of ​​Saturia said that bhutra has to be removed from the tree when it matures. In summer, you can't do much work on the land. They work for some time and sit under the tree next to the land. This is the way to rest and work. Due to intense heat, there is also a crisis of agricultural labor.

Lokman Hossain, a farmer of Ballia, said that there is bore paddy in the land now. It is very important to irrigate rice at this time. Otherwise, the rice will be spoiled. Due to the problem of electricity, I have to sit near the irrigation pump all the time day and night. I am irrigating when the electricity is coming.

Md. Abdur Razzak, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer of Saturia Agriculture Office said, Boro rice is the main crop in the crop field at present. It is very necessary to irrigate rice at this time. Irrigation is a problem due to loadshedding. If irrigation is not done properly, there is a possibility of crop failure due to rotting of rice.

Mamun Or Rashid, Deputy General Manager of Saturia Rural Electricity, said that the demand for electricity in Saturia is 12 to 13 megawatts, while the available capacity is 5 to 6 megawatts. Load shedding is occurring as half of the demand is met. He said that if it rains, the load shedding will decrease if the heat decreases.
