A Fitting Response Will Be Given to the Attack: Nahid

News Desk: Nahid Islam, the convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has vowed to deliver a fitting response to the attack on the party’s rally in Gopalganj. He declared, “We will not tolerate any terrorist stronghold in Gopalganj.”

He made this statement on Wednesday (July 16) during a rally held at the Municipal Park in Gopalganj town. Around 2:00 PM, central leaders of the NCP arrived at the rally stage in Sadar upazila.

Addressing the crowd, Nahid Islam praised those in attendance, calling them "brave sons of the soil." He said, “Those of you who have shown up today are courageous. We know that if there hadn’t been threats and obstacles, this rally would have drawn a sea of people.”

Nahid emphasized, “We have come to Gopalganj not for war, but with a call for peace and nation-building. This district must be freed from the grip of Mujibism and terrorism.”

It may be recalled that at around 1:35 PM today, members of the banned Awami League and its student wing Chhatra League stormed the NCP rally stage at Municipal Park. They vandalized sound systems, microphones, and chairs, and assaulted NCP leaders and activists present at the event.

Later, at approximately 2:45 PM near the launch terminal in Gopalganj town, as the rally concluded and NCP leaders were returning, their motorcade was again attacked by members of the outlawed Awami League and Chhatra League. When police attempted to intervene, violent clashes broke out between the two sides, turning the entire area into a battlefield.
