Highest Rainfall of the Season Recorded in Bogura: Waterlogging Causes Suffering for City Residents

Bogura Correspondent: Heavy rain since early Tuesday morning has caused severe disruption to daily life in Bogura. Between 7 AM and 3 PM, the Meteorological Department recorded 98.8 millimeters of rainfall—the highest so far this season. Continuous downpour led to waterlogging on many roads across the city, disrupting traffic and creating significant difficulties for students, office-goers, and low-income residents.

An on-site visit revealed stagnant water in various areas, including Satmatha, Borgola, Tinpatti, Badurtala, Namazgarh, and Goalgari. Residents of Borgola, Kajal Hossain and Anwar, said that water accumulates even after light rain. Due to the poor drainage system, water has entered narrow alleys and even flooded several homes.

The situation was particularly tough for students and parents on their way to school. Many were forced to walk as rickshaws became scarce. One parent, Manik Rahman, said, “It’s impossible to get a rickshaw when it rains. And if you do, the fare is double. So we have no choice but to walk.”

Syed Golam Kabir, senior observer at the Bogura Meteorological Office, said the rain is due to a low-pressure system and may continue throughout the day. Similar weather is likely for the next two days as well.

Meanwhile, lightning strikes during the rain have caused casualties. In the morning, Aminul Islam (45) of the Madrasa area in Shajahanpur Upazila was killed by a lightning strike. Shafiqul Islam Palash, Officer-in-Charge of Shajahanpur Police Station, confirmed the incident.
