Scholarships Awarded to 33 Students of BAU’s Faculty of Veterinary Science

Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh: A total of 33 underprivileged students from the Faculty of Veterinary Science at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) have been awarded scholarships from the Poor Student Scholarship Fund. Each student enrolled in the July–December 2024 semester received a one-time grant of BDT 7,500 under this initiative.

The scholarship awarding ceremony was held on Monday (July 14) at 12:30 PM in the faculty's conference room.

The event was presided over by Prof. Dr. Md. Bahanur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science and Chair of the Poor Student Scholarship Fund. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A. K. Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan attended the event as the chief guest. Also present as special guests were Prof. Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sardar, President of the Teachers’ Association and Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries, and Prof. Dr. Md. Shahidul Haque, Student Affairs Adviser. Heads and faculty members of various departments under the Faculty of Veterinary Science were also in attendance.

The ceremony was conducted by Prof. Dr. Mahbubul Pratik Siddique of the Department of Microbiology and Hygiene, while the welcome speech was delivered by Prof. Dr. Farida Yasmin Bari, a member of the scholarship fund committee.

In his speech, the vice-chancellor praised the initiative as noble and commendable. He expressed hope that other faculties would be inspired by the Faculty of Veterinary Science and implement similar programs. He mentioned that the Student Affairs Division has also been working to support financially disadvantaged students. However, he suggested that students who achieve top results in each semester should also be honored to recognize their academic excellence, which would further motivate them in their studies.

In his presidential address, Prof. Dr. Md. Bahanur Rahman stated that scholarships of BDT 7,500 each were awarded to 33 students for the July–December 2024 semester. He also mentioned that the process of launching a Dean’s Award is underway. One of the key conditions for receiving this scholarship is that students must not fail in any subject—and all recipients have met this requirement and are performing well academically.

He further added that the core aim of this scholarship is to ensure that no student falls behind in their education due to financial hardship.
