2 arrested including Sechchhasebak League leader during drug smuggling in Ulipur

Kurigram Correspondent: The army has arrested two drug dealers with Yaba in Ulipur, Kurigram. A motorcycle used for drug transportation was seized during the operation.

They were arrested on Sunday (July 13) night based on a secret tip-off. Major Shahariar Ahad of Kurigram Army Camp confirmed this information on Monday afternoon.

The arrested are Rezaul Karim, son of Ekabbar Ali of Kashiagari village and General Secretary of Dhamsreni Union Sechchhasebak League in Ulipur Upazila. The other drug dealer is Jahangir Alam, son of the deceased Mohsin Ali of Dakshin Madhupur village in Dharanibari Union.

According to army sources, a patrol team of 22 soldiers under the 72nd Infantry Brigade of Rangpur region conducted an operation based on secret information and arrested the drug dealers. 128 pieces of Yaba, 4 thousand taka in cash and a motorcycle were recovered during the search.

Major Shahariar Ahad, in charge of the Kurigram army camp, said that a case has been filed against the detainees under the Narcotics Control Act and they have been handed over to the local police station. He added that the anti-narcotics and extortion drive will continue.
