Brahmanbaria Correspondent: In Ashuganj, Brahmanbaria, a young man named Hridoy (25) was murdered by a drug dealer named Rubel (40) after being lured to the killer’s house. The incident took place on Thursday morning in Jatrapur village under the upazila. The deceased, Hridoy, was the son of Md. Jasim Uddin of Jatrapur village. The assailant, Rubel, is the son of the late Abdur Rahim of the same village.

Within three hours of the incident, police were able to arrest the drug dealer Rubel while he was hiding near his house. According to sources, Rubel has several cases filed against him, including for drug-related offenses.

According to eyewitnesses and the victim’s family, on Thursday morning, Rubel called Hridoy out of his house and took him to his own home. An argument and scuffle broke out between them in Rubel’s yard. At one point, Rubel repeatedly stabbed Hridoy and left him lying on the ground before fleeing. Locals rushed Hridoy to the upazila health complex, and later, due to his critical condition, he was taken to Dhaka. However, he died on the way in the Bhairab area.

Upon receiving the news, first the Ashuganj police and later the district detective branch visited the scene. Learning that the killer Rubel was hiding nearby, the police surrounded the entire area. During a tense operation, within three hours of the incident, Rubel was captured with the help of locals as he tried to flee from a nearby house.

Md. Jasim Uddin, the father of the deceased, said, "Rubel called my son Hridoy out of the house in the morning. A little while later, my son-in-law informed me over the phone that Hridoy was at the upazila hospital in a bloodied condition. Later, he died on the way to Dhaka. My son was murdered in a premeditated way. I demand exemplary punishment for the killers."

However, Rubel’s mother, Lalu Begum, said that during the scuffle in the yard, Rubel stabbed Hridoy. She admitted, "My son is addicted to drugs. His abuse has destroyed our family. Despite repeatedly informing the police, no action was taken. My husband died from a stroke because of him. I myself am undergoing treatment after suffering a stroke. He must not be allowed to come out of jail." Lalu Begum demanded strict punishment for her own son.

Officer-in-Charge of Ashuganj Police Station, Nahid Ahmed, stated, "The exact motive behind the murder is not yet confirmed. The main accused, Rubel, has been arrested. After filing a murder case, necessary action will be taken based on the investigation."
