Pabna housewife Sadia's murder case demands justice: Accused is roaming around in public, family alleges

Pabna Correspondent: Locals have formed a human chain and protested demanding justice for the murder of housewife Sadia in Pabna over dowry demands. The protest and human chain was organized by the victim's family and locals at a place called Akhter Dhal in Dapunia, Sadar Upazila, on Saturday (July 12) at around 11 am.

Anarul Islam, Amirul Islam, Saidul Rahman, deceased Sadia's father Sohel Molla, mother Dolly Begum, Josna Khatun, and others spoke at the human chain.

The speakers at the human chain complained that a case was filed at the police station after Sadia was killed. Even though the accused Sabbir is roaming around in public, the police is not taking any action. The victim's family and locals demanded immediate arrest of the accused Sabbir and exemplary punishment.

It is worth mentioning that Sadia Khatun, the daughter of expatriate Sohel Molla of Tikori village in Sadar upazila, was married four years ago to Sabbir Hossain, the son of Salam Pramanike of neighboring Kazipara village. After the marriage, Sabbir used to torture Sadia by demanding dowry money for a long time.

Sabbir beat her up on the night of June 26 when she refused to pay dowry. At one stage, Sadia died. Sabbir staged a drama and took Sadia to the hospital and left her there and fled. Sabbir and his family members have been absconding since the incident.

In this incident, the mother of the deceased Sadia Khatun, Dolly Khatun, filed a case of abetment to suicide with Pabna Sadar Police Station as the plaintiff. Case number 8 was filed on July 5. A total of five people, Sadia's husband Sabbir, her parents and two brothers, were accused in the case.

In this regard, Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdus Salam said, "The allegation that the police are not arresting the accused is not true. Because we have already formed a team to arrest the accused. They are always trying to arrest them."
