Chatmohar (Pabna) Correspondent: The farmers of Chatmohar in Pabna are benefiting by cultivating different types of vegetables in the Loft system. The production is also increasing as the vegetables are not wasted. Farmers of Chatmohar are now benefiting more than before by cultivating Patal, Tomato, Gourd, Bean, Sweet Pumpkin, Karala, Dhundal, Chalkumra, Jhinga, Chichinga, Cucumber, Barbati and other herbaceous vegetables.

As a result, vegetable cultivation is on the rise. Jahangir Alam, son of Abul Hossain of Mathurapur village in the Upazila, said they and three friends farmed vegetables on six bighas of land. On this farm, they are cultivating Patal, Tomato, Gourd, Karala, Dhundal on the platform. They have made a platform by pulling the GI wire on the bamboo poles and spreading jute, nylon thread, and thin GI on it. They have already spent about one lakh rupees to cultivate tomatoes on two and a quarter bighas of land. They have cultivated a Bijli-11 variety of tomatoes. Tomatoes have already begun to ripen. He hopes that if the market price of tomatoes is good, they will be able to make enough profit. When cultivated in Loft, vegetables are protected from decay.

As a result, the yield is almost doubled. Vegetables are protected from insects and spiders. Irrigation and application of pesticides are also beneficial, he said. According to the Chatmohar Upazila Agriculture Office, vegetables have been cultivated in 1,845 hectares of land in Chatmohar this season. Of these, the bean has been planted in 200 hectares of land, brinjal in 250 hectares of land, radish in 95 hectares of land, flower copy in 180 hectares of land, gourd in 145 hectares of land, spinach in 115 hectares of land, and cabbage in 90 hectares of land.

Upazila Agriculture Officer AA Masum Billah told Daily Third Matra that farmers are now aware. Many farmers have started cultivating creeping vegetables including tomatoes. Although the initial cost of growing vegetables on the platform is high, it is profitable. Patal, Tomato, Gourd, Bean, Sweet Pumpkin, Karala, Dhundal, and other vegetables can be cultivated on the platform. It is better to choose high ground for this. If the scaffolding is made high, the vegetables do not come in contact with the soil. Insects, spiders, and fungi attack less. Tomatoes, sweet pumpkins, if they come in contact with the soil, on the one hand, there is a fear of rot and on the other hand, the soil does not ripen properly. Other advantages of cultivating vegetables in Loft are that they do not get spoiled by applying vitamins or a limited amount of pesticides on the vegetables. Weeds at the base of the tree are easy to clean. Sexferamon or yellow sticky traps can be used at the level where the insects move more. Safe vegetables are available in this method as it is environment friendly.
