A UP member was shot dead after entering the PIO office in Rangamati

News Desk: Terrorists shot dead a UP member named Samar Vijaya Chakma (38) after entering a government office in Baghaichhari, Rangamati. The incident took place around one o'clock on Wednesday. The slain UP member is a leader of a youth association supported by the Chittagong Hill Tracts Jana Sanghati Samiti (MN Larma).

Upazila Project Implementation Officer Nurnabi Sarkar, who was present at the spot, said UP member Samar Vijay Chakma was talking to me about the project. Two or three people were peeking out the door. A man enters the room, fires a weapon at Samar Vijay's chest, and quickly leaves the scene. The office of the Upazila Project Implementation Officer is located on the second floor of the Baghaichhari Upazila Parishad building.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shariful Islam works in a room next to the three rooms of this office. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shariful Islam said the UP member came to the office to talk about the project. But two motorcyclists came and shot him in the office and left. Meanwhile, the legal secretary of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Jana Sanghati Samiti (MNLARMA) and Upazila chairman Sudarshan Chakma claimed that the slain Samar Vijay Chakma was the leader of the central committee of their affiliated organization Juba Samiti and blamed the armed cadres of the CHT Jana Sanghati Samiti.

He also demanded the arrest and trial of those involved in the killings. However, Santu Larma tried to speak to several leaders of the Jana Sanghati Samiti but could not be reached for comment. Baghaichhari Police Station OC Anwar Hossain Khan confirmed the incident and said, "We came to the spot after receiving the news and saw the UP member lying in a chair with a bullet wound and dead."
