In Manikganj, the wife held a press conference demanding her husband's punishment

News Desk: A victim woman holding a press conference demanding the arrest and punishment of her cheating husband living in Japan with her seven-month-old child in her arms. The victim's wife Mausumi Hossain Munni read out a written statement at a press conference at Manikganj Press Club auditorium on Tuesday.

The victim told a press conference that she got married on May 1, 2019, to Jewel Sikder, a Japanese expatriate living in Mirpur, Dhaka. During the marriage, 15 gold ornaments were given as dowry. After 18 days of marriage, Jewel moved to Japan. Then he came to the country after 3 and a half months. He sold his gold ornaments and jewels as he needed special money. A few months later, Jewel demanded Rs 10 lakh as dowry. When he showed an inability to do so, Jewel beat him.

At one point, Mausumi learns that Jewel has been married three more times before and is living in Japan with two wives. He is keeping his other wife in a separate house. Seven months before their two-year marriage, a daughter named Jannatul Mehek Raisa was born.

Jewel got married for the 5th time in December 2020 in Faridpur. At present, Jewel has stopped all communication with Munni. Munni filed a case against her husband Jewel in the Manikganj Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court on January 25 this year under the 2017 Dowry Prohibition Act. The next day, the court issued an arrest warrant against Jewel.

However, he has not been arrested yet. Munni's mother Shefali, sister Moumita, uncle Mizanur Rahman and chairman of the National Women's Organization Lakshmi Chatterjee were present at the press conference. Lakshmi Chatterjee said it was the responsibility of the state to bring the fraudulent Jewel back to the country and bring him to justice. The organization will try to cooperate with the victim.
