3 more illegal brickfields evicted in Fatikchhari

Chittagong (North) Correspondent: As part of the eviction drive against illegal brick kilns without environmental clearance and Deputy Commissioner's brick burning license, the Department of Environment and the district administration in a joint operation in Chittagong demolished three illegally constructed brick kilns in Fatikchhari upazila of Chittagong district.

The operation was carried out on Wednesday (February 17) from 10 am to 5 pm, dismantling Zaria Brix (JB) in Fatikchhari Harualchhari Union, Halda Brix (HB) in Swabil area and Grameen Brix (GB) in Paindong Union. District Magistrate Ashraful Islam led the eviction drive. RAB, police and fire service personnel assisted in the eviction operation. In this regard, Executive Magistrate Ashraful Islam said that the illegally constructed brickfields in different areas of Fatikchhari have been conducting business illegally for a long time.

There is no clearance to run a brick kiln business. So today 3 brickfields have been demolished in Fatikchhari. During the operation, the brick kilns along with their chimneys were demolished and their activities were stopped. The operation is being conducted in Fatikchhari and Chandnaish upazilas today. The campaign against illegal brick kilns will continue.

Sheikh Mojahed, assistant director of the environment department, Chittagong district office, said the operation was carried out against six illegally built brickfields in different areas of Fatikchhari and Chandnaish today on the orders of the high court. During the operation, 5 brickfields in Chandnaish area and 3 in Fatikchhari were demolished. Those who do not have any valid documents and approval. All illegally constructed brickfields will be demolished in stages.
