News Desk: After the export to Akhaura land port in Brahmanbaria, this time the door of import has been fully opened and there is a great enthusiasm among the traders. Like them, the Akhaura land port, which is connected to the Seven Sisters of India, will be boosted as the port facilitates imports. Government revenue will increase. Traders are relieved to know that the door of import has been opened at Brahmanbaria Akhaura land port after a long 28 years.

According to traders, at least 42 products including dried fish, frozen fish, cement, soybeans, plastic products and coal have been exported through this land port for a long time. On the other hand, only a few products including bold stone, CNG autopars, flower brooms, satkara, liquid rubber were imported. However, due to lack of demand, Bangladeshi traders were not interested in importing these products.

In the meantime, the 100 per cent export-oriented port has come to a standstill as Indian traders have reduced imports. On February 9, local MP Law Minister Anisul Haque sent a message to the land port traders, saying, "All types of goods have been allowed to be imported except the banned ones. The land port traders are overjoyed at the news."

Mostafizur Rahman, assistant director of the land port, said that with the implementation of this announcement, the sluggish port will now be as strong as Benapole. Meanwhile, the revenue officer of the port Mohammad Ali said that the revenue at the port will increase as all the goods except the banned goods will be allowed to be imported. Declared as Port of Call in 1994, Akhaura Land Port started operations in 2010 as a full-fledged land port.
