Sports Desk: The Shakib-Liton duo broke up in the third over of the day after adding six runs in the second day of the first Test of the two-match series against the West Indies. Liton had to return bold after playing a cutshot in the 93rd second ball of Warrickan's attack. Before returning, the wicketkeeper played 37 balls in six fours. So Bangladesh lost the sixth wicket for 246 runs.

At the time of writing, Bangladesh had scored 265 runs for 8 wickets. Shakib is at the crease with 49 runs, joined by Mehedi Miraj. Earlier, Bangladesh scored 242 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 90 overs. Opener Sadman Islam scored the highest 59 runs for the team with a half-century.

In the first session of the first day of the match on Wednesday, Bangladesh scored 79 runs for 2 wickets in 29 overs till the lunch break. In the next session, ie till the tea break, the Tigers scored 140 runs for 4 wickets in 56 overs. As a result, the hosts were under pressure at the end of the first two sessions. Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das took the team to a good position at the end of the day with an unbeaten 49 off 95 balls for the sixth wicket.

Earlier in the return Test, Bangladesh played four spinners and a fast bowler including Shakib at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong to play the first Test of the series.

After winning the toss, the host Bangladesh decided to bat first. Two left-arm batsmen Sadman Islam and Tamim Iqbal started the innings for the team. In the first delivery of the innings, Sadman achieved the boundary with a great shot with cover.

Then 1 more came from Sadman's bat and 2 more from Tamim's bat. Bangladesh got 23 runs at the end of 4 overs. The two openers gave a good start to the score. But West Indies right-arm pacer Kemar Roach broke Bangladesh's opening partnership by bowling Tamim for 9 off the third ball of the fifth over. Another left-hander Nazmul Hossain Shant came to the wicket after the first wicket fell for 23 runs.

Shant opened the scoring with a boundary in the fourth ball. He then calmly handled the West Indies bowlers with Sadman. Sadman-Shant touched 50 in the 18th over. However, in the first ball of the 24th over, Shant fell into the trap of run out due to misunderstanding with Sadman. He scored 25 runs off 56 balls in 3 fours. Shant added 43 off 112 balls with Sadman for the second wicket. After his dismissal, captain Mominul Haque came to the crease. No more wickets fell before the lunch break. Sadman made 33 off 42 balls with 4 fours and Mominul made 2 off the break.

Sadman and Mominul were playing cautiously back after the break. Sadman tasted his second half-century in the seventh Test with a boundary off West Indies left-arm spinner Jomel Warikan in the first ball of the 49th over. He scored 6 runs in his Test debut against the West Indies in Mirpur in 2016. After that Sadman could not play a big innings in 10 innings. Captain Mominul made his way to the pavilion after Sadman's half-century off the 128th ball. Mominul, who was playing with a test of patience, lost his temper. Mominul caught John Campbell at short midwicket off Warrickan.

The Bangladesh captain scored 26 runs in 2 fours from 96 balls. Mominul added 53 runs off 18 balls with Sadman. After the fall of the captain, Sadman was dreaming of going on a tea break with Mushfiqur Rahim. But Warrickan didn't let that happen. The left-arm spinner trapped Sadman leg before 10 balls before the break. Sadman made 59 off 6 fours off 154 balls.

Mushfiqur went down to No. 9 and Shakib Al Hasan went unbeaten on 3 and went to the tea break. Mushfiqur-Sakib tried to build a strong foundation for the team after returning from the break. Sadman-Shant-Mominul could not go far even after trying. Shakib and Mushfiqur have followed the same path as them. They put up a resistance against the West Indies bowlers to build the foundation.

In this, Bangladesh's score exceeded one and a half and was moving towards two hundred. But before reaching two hundred, Shakib and Mushfiqur broke up. Mushfiqur became the third victim of spinner Warrickan. Warrickan dismissed Mushfiqur for 193 runs. Mushfiqur made 36 off 69 balls in 6 fours. They added 59 runs off 108 balls for the fifth wicket.

After Mushfiqur's departure, Shakib ended the day well without losing any more wickets with Liton. West Indies spinner Jomel Warrickan took 3 wickets for 57 runs. Besides, Kemar Roach took 1 wicket for 44 runs. In the warm-up match, Rakib Cornwall, a tall off-spinner who caused problems for the BCB XI batsmen, was wicketless with 56 runs in 22 overs.
