News Desk: Textbooks in their own language will be handed over to more than 94,000 children of five small ethnic groups along with general students. Of these, all books of pre-primary to second class and only Bangla books of third class will be given to them. At the same time Braille books will be given to the visually impaired students.

This information has been obtained from the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB). NCTB officials said that for the 2021 academic year, textbooks in their own language will be distributed to Chakma, Marma, Sadri, Tripura and Garo students. Among them, all the books from pre-primary to first and second class are given in special languages but in the third class only Bengali books will be given in tribal languages. They will be added to the general education from the next class. Although textbooks were supposed to be given in Santal language this year, it is not possible to give it.

It has lagged behind because of the conflict between them. It is learned that this time 2 lakh 13 thousand 26 books in the language of small ethnic groups will be handed over to 94 thousand 265 children. And Braille books will be handed over to 9,196 visually impaired people. Earlier, Braille books were given to visually impaired students on a small scale through the Ministry of Social Welfare. Asked about this, NCTB chairman Prof Narayan Chandra Saha said on Thursday that about 350 million textbooks would be distributed across the country this year.

They will be accompanied by five minority ethnic children in their own language and Braille books for the visually impaired. Since 2016, textbooks in their own language have been distributed to small ethnic groups from pre-primary to third grade. He added that although the Sawtal ethnic groups were supposed to give books in their own language, there was a dilemma among them as to which language the letters would be written in as there were more than one group among them.

Due to this, it is not possible to give books to the Sawtals in their own language this year as well. In the meantime, about 100 percent of primary and 75 percent of secondary books have reached the district level. He also said that the percentage will reach all the districts by December 31.
