Bangladesh Ambassador’s fruitful meeting at Qatar’s Labour Ministry

Bangladesh Ambassador to the State of Qatar Md. Jashim Uddin, ndc had a meeting this morning with Assistant Under-Secretary Hassan Al-Obaidly. During the meeting, the Bangladesh Ambassador mentioned about the expectation of the stranded Bangladesh nationals and requested the Under-Secretary to expedite the process of their return to Qatar. In response, the Under-Secretary informed the Ambassador that necessary steps have been taken to facilitate the speedy return of the stranded expatriates. The applications submitted by the companies or institutions who have violated the Qatari labour law will, however, undergo close scrutiny, he added.

The Ambassador welcomed the decision of the Qatar Government to recruit new workers and urged the Under-Secretary to accord high priority for the employment of Bangladeshi workers in different sectors in Qatar. Mr. Obaidly assured of active consideration in this regard. The Ambassador also requested to regularise the Bangladeshi nationals in Qatar who are living in an irregular situation, to which Mr. Obaidly responded positively.

Change of sponsorship, difficulties faced by the workers in their workplace and awareness program jointly by the Embassy and the local Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs also featured in their discussions.

The meeting held in the friendly and cordial atmosphere was attended by Director of Recruitment Fayaz Al Rais, Director of International Cooperation Sheikha Mohammad Al Khater, Assistant Director for Labour Relations Mohammad Abdul Wahid al Obaidly from the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs and Labour Counsellor Dr. Mohammad Mustafizur Rahaman, Labour Counsellor Mohammad Rabiul Islam and Counsellor (Political and Economic Affairs) Md. Mahbur Rhaman from the Embassy of Bangladesh in Doha.
