CNI Desk: Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan said that they are planning to organise the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) in bio-secure environment amid Covid-19 pandemic.

DPL resumption will largely depend on how the three-team 50-over tournament named BCB President’s Cup goes on as board is trying to see how they manage the test case tournament.

The players of these three teams remain under bio-secure bubble at this moment.

BCB will organise a T20 tournament following BCB President Cup where they will be keeping players in bio-secure environment like they are doing now.

Thereafter, BCB will think about the DPL, which was postponed after one round due to the outbreak of Covid-19 in the country.

“It is possible to organize DPL if we can ensure a bio-bubble for the players. BCB can’t take risk about players health since the coronavirus still remains in the country,” BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon said on Monday.

The number of the players in DPL will be bigger than the three-team tournament or the upcoming T20 tournament which raised a question whether BCB can ensure the bio-bubble for the large number of players.

BCB president said currently they are also thinking on how they can ensure the bio-secure environment for the players of the 12 teams of DPL.

“The problem is how we can ensure the bio-bubble for the players of the 12 teams. We have talked about it on Monday and the CEO said it is possible to keep all the players in bio-bubble. I told them to give me a detail plan on how we can organize the tournament. Hopefully, we will take final decision very soon,” he added.

The BCB president, however, also talked about the T20 tournament but couldn’t give much details.

“It is sure we will organize a T20 tournament in mid November. But we are not sure whether it will be corporate tournament or whether any corporate institution will come here to take any team. But that doesn’t matter whether anyone comes or not, we’ll definitely organise it and if needed, we will bear the whole expenditure,” he said.

The BCB is also thinking to include foreign players in the T20 tournament, said Papon.

“The thing is we have to be sure that the standard of the foreign players. If the standard is lower than our local players, we won’t include any foreign player. The foreign players should be high standard.”
