CNI Desk: Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said on Wednesday Shaheed Sheikh Kamal was a visionary and greedless person.

“Shaheed Sheikh Kamal was a visionary and deep thinker, generous and a greedless person who was very simple despite staying near the centre of power,” he said.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, made the remarks while speaking at a virtual press conference from his official residence here after paying homage to Shaheed Sheikh Kamal at Abahani Club and Banani graveyard on the occasion of the 71st birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal.

Sensing the changeover of political culture in a changing political situation, he said, Sheikh Kamal had put emphasis on political culture.

Terming the political culture a base of ideal politics, Quader said Sheikh Kamal understood that it was urgent to change the political culture aiming to change the country’s political situation.

He said Kamal took sports and culture as a stair of self-realisation.

As a member of the family of Father of the Nation and undisputed leader of the Bangalees Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the AL general secretary said, Kamal had closely observed the struggles of the Bangalee nation.

He said Sheikh Kamal realised that if sports and culture could be applied for the country’s socioeconomic and political development, everything would be welfare-oriented.

Quader said Kamal was a frontline organiser in the stage drama movement to mobilise the society for the development of underprivileged communities and reconstructing the country after the liberation war.

Sheikh Kamal will remain forever in the experiences and memories from generation to generation, he said, adding, “Shaheed Sheikh Kamal was dedicated to realising the rights of an organised Bangalee nation under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman apart from developing the sports and culture.”

The road transport and bridges minister said Sheikh Kamal had joined the front fight during the 1971 Liberation War and he was the pathfinder of his generation.

He said the assassins killed a promising future leader by killing Sheikh Kamal along with most of his family members on August 15 in 1975.

About the killing of Major (Retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan, Quader said those involved in the killing would be brought to justice through proper investigation into the incident.
