News desk: The number of deaths due to dengue fever is increasing in the country. Dengue fever has claimed nine lives across the country in the last 24 hours, which is the highest number of dengue deaths in a single day this year. Earlier on August 2, a maximum of eight people died in a single day. With this, the number of deaths due to dengue this year has reached 210.
On the other hand, in the last 24 hours, 915 people were infected with dengue and admitted to the hospital. A total of 41 thousand 810 people have been infected with this.
This information was informed in a press release about dengue sent from the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Department of Health on Saturday (October 12) evening.
It is said that among the victims there are 331 people from the two city corporation areas of Dhaka. Besides, 100 people have been admitted to hospital in Dhaka Division, 197 in Chittagong Division, 108 in Barisal Division, 97 in Khulna Division, 45 in Mymensingh Division, 24 in Rajshahi Division, 9 in Rangpur Division and 4 in Sylhet Division.
From January 1 to October 12 this year, 41 thousand 810 people have been admitted to hospitals due to dengue infection. Of whom 63.30 percent are men and 36.70 percent are women. Besides, 50.50 percent of the 210 dead are men and 49.50 percent are women.
Dengue outbreaks occur every year during the rainy season. From June 2023, the dengue situation became dire. Last year, 321 thousand 179 patients were admitted to hospitals in the country, including 110 thousand 8 people in Dhaka and 211 thousand 171 people outside Dhaka.
3 lakh 18 thousand 749 people have returned home after recovery. Last year, 1,705 people died of dengue, the highest death toll in a single year in the country's history.
In 2019, 1 lakh 1 thousand 354 people were infected with dengue and about 300 people died. In 2020, due to the corona pandemic, dengue transmission was low, but in 2021, 28,429 people were infected with dengue and 105 died. A total of 62,382 people were hospitalized for dengue in 2022, of which 281 died.
