Demand for formation of anti-sexual harassment cell in educational institutions

Online Desk:  A human chain was held in Barisal demanding the formation of anti-sexual harassment cells in educational institutions, proper investigation of rape incident in Jahangirnagar University and punishment of those involved. On Saturday (February 10) at 11 am in the Ashwini Kumar Hall premises, the Bangladesh Student Federation Barisal district branch organized this human bonding program.

Bangladesh Student Federation Barisal District Vice President Hachib Ahmed presided over the human band.

Organizing Secretary Jannat Nipu, Curriculum Secretary Nahid Islam, Finance Secretary Jannat Payal and others were present under the supervision of General Secretary Raidul Islam Shakib. Barisal district coordinator Dewan Abdur Rashid Nilu was present expressing solidarity.  

The leaders said, such a shameful incident in Jahangirnagar University, a well-known university of the country, is a shame for us. Incidents like rape in the university where knowledge is held, prove that the whole country is vulnerable to these oppressors. It has been reported in various media that the main accused in this incident has been involved in earlier university rapes which have been covered up. He is also alleged to be involved in drug trade in Jahangirnagar University. How could such a known terrorist continue his criminal activities in the university for so long. We have come to know that he is the incumbent leader of the Chhatra League in the university. He has been able to continue these misdeeds from the political umbrella of the Chhatra League. Therefore, rape, drug dealing and encroachment cannot be controlled from the country by only punishing one or two accused. The source of political power of these evils must be identified and destroyed.

The leaders immediately demanded exemplary punishment by bringing those involved in the rape of Jahangirnagar University under the law. It called upon the student body to unite to protect the political power of rape, including forming anti-sexual harassment cells in all educational institutions.
