7.6 magnitude earthquake hits Japan, 24 dead

International Desk: A 7.6-magnitude earthquake hit Japan on Monday. At least 129 aftershocks have occurred since then, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. So far 24 people have been confirmed dead due to the earthquake. In a report, the Japanese media Kyodo News said this information. Several buildings collapsed in Monday's earthquake. A major fire breaks out in a popular tourist area. A tsunami warning was in effect for a long time. But later it was removed.

The Hawaii-based Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said yesterday that a 1.2 meter tsunami hit Wajima City in Ishikawa Prefecture shortly after the earthquake. A more dangerous tsunami could hit the coast of Japan within 300 meters (190 miles) of the epicenter. However, the warning was lifted on Tuesday morning.

According to the news, the authorities are reviewing the earthquake damage on Tuesday. After the earthquake, the Japanese military began rescue operations. They started providing food, water and all the shelter equipment. The country's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida assured the general public that the rescue work has started after the earthquake.

Kishida also said that many roads were damaged by yesterday's strong earthquake. Many buildings have collapsed. Due to this, the rescue team of the army has to speed up to reach the spot. The earthquake also affected the country's transport network and stranded commuters. Since the earthquake, bullet trains and flights have been canceled in the area.

Four trains of the Hokuriku bullet train carrying a total of 1,400 passengers between Toyama and Kanazawa stations were halted for 11 hours. Besides, more than 32 thousand families are without electricity in the respective areas. Water supply has been cut off in several cities. US President Joe Biden said, America is ready to provide necessary cooperation to Japan.
