News Desk: A record number of posts in government jobs are lying vacant due to prolonged recruitment freeze amid the Covid pandemic. Earlier the number of vacant posts was less than four lakh but now it is close to five lakh.

The Public Administration Ministry released the statistics of government employees for the year 2022 on Thursday. Against these positions, 13 lakh 96 thousand 818 people are working; 4 lakh 89 thousand 976 posts are vacant.

That is, 25.786 percent of the total posts in government jobs are vacant. Never before have so many posts been vacant in terms of number and percentage.

The recruitment process for government jobs has come to a standstill along with everything else during the lockdown amid the pandemic, officials say. Dates of preliminary, written and oral examinations for government jobs in various departments have been postponed phase by phase.

To compensate for the loss of the epidemic, the government has given a maximum relaxation of 39 months in the age of other government job seekers except BCS. Recently, the Ministry of Public Administration has also given a number of prompts to the departments to fill the vacant posts quickly. However, the recruitment process has not been speeded up.
