A budget of 7 lakh 61 thousand crores is going to be announced today

News desk: The budget for the fiscal year 2023-24 is going to be announced with the aim of controlling inflation and maintaining a high GDP growth rate. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal will present the budget in the National Assembly on Thursday (June 1) at 3 pm. The size of this proposed budget has been estimated at 7 lakh 61 thousand 785 crores. Which is Tk 1 lakh 1 thousand 278 crore more than the revised budget of the current financial year.

The title of this year's budget speech is 'Towards Smart Bangladesh after a decade and a half of development progress.' This is the 52nd budget of independent Bangladesh. Besides, this is the 15th budget of the three terms of the Awami League government. AHM Mustafa Kamal's fifth consecutive budget as finance minister.

Usually every year the budget is passed on or before the last working day of the financial year (June 29). However, this time due to Eid al-Adha, the budget is being passed early. In this budget, the overall deficit (excluding grants) is estimated at 2 lakh 61 thousand 785 crores, which is equal to 5.20 percent of the GDP. In the revised budget of the current financial year, the overall deficit is estimated at 2 lakh 27 thousand 507 taka, which is 5.10 percent of the GDP.

The deficit in the next financial year's budget including grants is estimated to be Tk 2 lakh 57 thousand 885 crores. In the revised budget of the current financial year, the overall deficit including grants is estimated at 2 lakh 24 thousand 244 crores. The target of taking foreign loans to meet the deficit is Tk 1 lakh 27 thousand 190 crores. On the contrary, the foreign debt repayment target of Tk 24 thousand 700 crore is being considered. The amount of net foreign debt will be 1 lakh 2 thousand 490 crores.
