Sanju Roy, Bogra: The police have arrested Shafiqul Islam, the mastermind behind the money robbery and murder case at the main post office of Bogra based on the code of the machine packet lying in front of the vault. According to the district police, Shafiqul is a professional robber. He alone committed these robberies and murders. 40-year-old Shafiqul Islam is the son of deceased Abdus Salam of West Karamdanga, Sapahar, Naogaon. He was arrested by the intelligence wing of the district police in a raid on the Indian border area of ​​Sapahar Upazila on May 3. Bogra District Superintendent of Police Sudeep Kumar Chakraborty BPM PPM gave this information in a press conference around 12:30 pm on Thursday. He said that after Eid, the dead body of Prashant Kumar Acharya, who was guarding the post office, was recovered on April 24. At that time, it is known that 8 lakhs of rupees were looted by cutting the vault.

After this incident, the police started investigation with various issues in mind. On investigation, a Bose company sound machine packet was found in front of the vault. A shop called Babu Machineries was traced by the code on it. The police found the similarity of the person seen in the night footage at the post office with the footage of the CCTV camera there. On investigation, the police came to know that Shafiqul had come to Bogra a month ago on March 12 to make shirts. At that time he parked his motorcycle at the post office. At that time, Shafikul came up with the plan of loot after seeing the money transaction of the post office. Superintendent of Police mentioned that Shafiqul went back to Naogaon after reiki on the same day as planned. Then came to Bogra again on March 15 and bought grill, lock cutting equipment from Babu Machineries. Later on the night of 21 April, the equipment was kept inside the post office.

But on that day Shafiqul could not cut the vault and take the money. So he came again on April 23 to collect the money. When innocent office assistant Prashant Acharya, who was on guard at that time, proceeded to perform his duties, Shafikul hit him on the head and strangled him to death. Later in the morning, he left the gate with the money and went to Naogaon. Shafiqul kept the looted money in two banks. SP Sudeep Kumar said this in a press conference. He said that after going to Naogaon, Shafiqul deposited two lakh taka in his account in Mercantile Bank of Jalil Market in the city. On the same day, he deposited Tk 3 lakh 76 thousand in his other account in Dutch Bangla Bank. The police also found this money. The rest of the money is being sought. At this time, he also said that there are a total of 9 cases of theft and robbery against the arrested Shafiqul Islam in different districts.

In 2019, he was arrested while looting money by cutting the vault of Janata Bank in Banani area of ​​Dhaka. District Superintendent of Police said that Shafiqul confessed all the details about the post office money robbery and murder after they were caught and he will also give a statement under section 164 in the learned court, he told the press conference. However, on the day of the incident, SP Sudeep expressed disappointment with the security system of the main post office located in Satmatha, the heart of Bogra, and the mismanagement of the authorities. He said, how can they leave the entire responsibility to an office assistant instead of a night watchman keeping various important documents including money in the post office. Because an office assistant cannot perform professional duties like a night watchman. So Prashant Acharya became the victim of brutal murder.

Although the concerned department will conduct a separate investigation on the negligence or mismanagement of the post office authorities, still he urged the authorities to be more aware of the security provisions of all financial institutions in the district and the district police family will always cooperate wholeheartedly. District Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Snigdh Akhtar PPM, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Sharafat Islam, Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Helena Akhtar, Sadar Police Station OC Noore Alam Siddiqui, District Intelligence Branch Incharge Saihan Oliullah, Sadar Outpost Various levels of district police members including in-charge Shahinuzzaman were present. It is to be noted that on the night of April 24, office assistant Prashant Kumar Acharya who was guarding the post office was killed and eight lakh rupees were looted. Later in this incident Mahidul Islam, chief post office inspector of Bogra became the plaintiff and filed a case against 5 to 7 people.
