News Desk:  Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said that a letter has been sent to BNP for an informal meeting, not a dialogue. The CEC said this in a press conference in front of his office at the Agargaon election building in the capital on Tuesday.

He said, I gave a letter to the BNP General Secretary for informal meeting that you can participate in the meeting informally. The letter was given late on Thursday. From various statements, it seems that they received the letter.

Stating that the government has nothing to do with this letter, the CEC said, many say it was a strategy of the government. We want to inform everyone that the government had nothing to do with it. We have been talking about free, fair and impartial elections since the beginning.

In a letter sent to BNP and like-minded parties for discussion on March 23, CEC wrote, "We have been holding local level elections consistently since assuming office on February 27, 2022. The present commission has been pursuing participatory and competitive parliamentary elections ever since assuming office. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party has been rejecting the current commission by expressing no confidence. You have decided not to hold elections without a caretaker government.

Although the commission has no comment on such political decisions and strategies, the letter said. Although rejected by you, the commission thinks that as a large political party, there can be an informal discussion or exchange of views on the upcoming twelfth parliamentary election. I invite you to EC. Dates can be negotiated if kindly agreed. Awaiting reply.

It is known that BNP has not sent any official reply to CEC's letter.
