International Desk: Slovakia has handed over four of its fleet of 13 MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. On Thursday, these Soviet-era warplanes arrived in Ukraine from Slovakia. Ukrainian pilots, assisted by the country's air force, continued to escort the warplanes. Slovakia's defense ministry said four fighter jets were handed over to Ukraine on Thursday.

As promised, the rest of the fighter jets will be handed over to Ukraine within weeks. We don't want to say anything in detail until the warplanes arrive safely in Ukraine. Ukraine wants warplanes from neighboring and western countries to prevent Russian aggression. Responding to that call, Slovakia, as the second NATO member country, assisted Ukraine with warplanes. Defense Minister Jaroslav Nad thanked everyone involved in the handover of the warplanes. The United States has offered Slovakia 12 new military helicopters, the Defense Ministry of Slovakia said on Wednesday.

Washington offered this as compensation for giving warplanes to Ukraine. In addition, Slovakia has previously signed an agreement with the country to purchase 14 F-16 fighter jets made by the United States. On the other hand, Russia has been repeatedly complaining that NATO is trying to prolong the war by supplying advanced weapons to Ukraine. The Kremlin further alleged that the US-led Western military alliance was "directly" involved in the conflict by continuing to supply Ukraine with arms.
