News Desk: General Secretary of Awami League and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has commented that the accident that happened in Qutubpur of Shibchar Upazila of Madaripur district is not due to the road. He said, every death is painful. We don't want a single death on the road. Seeking forgiveness for the souls of those killed in yesterday's road accident and conveying our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and relatives. He said these things in a statement sent to the media on Monday (March 20). In the statement, he condemned and protested the fabricated speech of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir regarding Sunday's road accident. He said that the government of Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly to restore order in the road and transport sector and prevent accidents.

The rules made under the much awaited 'Road Transport Act-2018' have also been implemented. National highways across the country are being upgraded to six lanes with service lanes in a phased manner. Already the work of upgrading several national highways to six lanes including service lanes has been completed. Accident prone spots have been de-risked through a project. De-risking of other spots has also been undertaken. Initiatives have been taken to identify accident-prone road estuaries and provide engineering solutions. Necessary signs are being installed. 4 rest houses are being constructed at Panchila of Sirajganj, Nimsar of Comilla, Jagdishpur of Habiganj and Lakshikander of Magura for the rest of goods transport drivers. In the statement, Obaidul Quader said that after failing in political movement, BNP is now playing politics with road accidents.

By doing negative politics and telling lies, the situation of BNP is now such that even if it dies due to lightning, it indulges in the apolitical politics of putting the blame on the government. However, the road communication sector was the most neglected during this BNP regime. After the government of Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina came to power, she prioritized the communication sector and under her able leadership revolutionary changes have been seen in the development of the road communication system. BNP is ashamed to admit this fact. He also said that before the renewal of driving license, refresher training is being given compulsorily to the professional drivers to increase their skills and awareness. 62 thousand 900 professional drivers have been given this training in the financial year 2021-22 and the program is ongoing.

In order to implement the instructions of the Prime Minister, dope test certificates/reports of candidates are being compulsorily accepted during the issue and renewal of professional driving license from January 30 last year. Awami League General Secretary said, implementation of safe road corridor with the financial support of the World Bank, safety activities on 5 thousand km roads, training for professional drivers, modernization of vehicle inspection program, modernization of three hospitals (Mugda, Tangail and Bogra) trauma center, construction of police training center, A multi-dimensional project has been undertaken to modernize the CRUSH database system.

The project is in process for presentation at Eknek meeting. All appropriate steps are being taken by the government to reduce road accidents to zero. Besides, initiatives have been taken to increase awareness among drivers, transport workers and pedestrians on the roads. Without applauding the government for all the steps taken, BNP is criticizing the government just for the sake of criticism to achieve nefarious political objectives.
