Good health of people is an essential prerequisite for development progress: Sheikh Hasina

News Desk: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that good health of the people is an essential prerequisite to keep development progress fast. In a message given on Monday (March 20) on the occasion of World Health Day celebration, he called on the members of Bangladesh Dental Society to continue all efforts to ensure good oral and dental health among the people of the country. I am glad to know that Health Day is being celebrated. I extend my best wishes to all concerned on this occasion.

Pointing out that the great success of the Awami League-led government in the health sector has already been revealed in the reports of various international organizations including the United Nations, World Health Organization, and the World Bank, he said, "We are gradually creating government posts at various levels for the country's dental surgeons, for professional development in line with the developed world. We have taken significant steps to improve the quality of this profession including formulating programs, establishing full-fledged dental colleges in three divisional cities. Sheikh Hasina said that our government has been able to initiate a breakthrough revolution in the health sector by proper campaigning, policy formulation and providing modern medical services at the doorsteps of the people.

National Health Policy, Bangladesh Population Policy, Bangabandhu Medical University Act, Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council Act, Blood Transfusion Act, Smoking and Tobacco Use Control Act, etc. have been formulated to ensure that the health system is up-to-date and safeguarding the interests of the people. He said, the Ministry of Health, All the departments, including the Health Department, are conveying all their activities and information to the people through their own web sites. This development and revolutionary progress in the health sector in Bangladesh has been achieved through the concerted efforts of our government and your tireless efforts and collective participation of the people.

The Prime Minister said that many people around the world are suffering from various complex diseases including teeth and mouth only because of not taking proper care of the oral cavity. The awareness campaign that the World Dental Federation is conducting in this regard through this globally celebrated day is really commendable, he said, with the collective efforts of all, we will be able to build 'Smart Bangladesh' i.e. 'Golden Bangladesh', the lifelong dream of the greatest Bengali of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
