Gas prices in the industrial sector increased yet again

News Desk: The price of gas in the industrial sector has been increased yet again. A notification in this regard has been issued by the Department of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. The new price will be effective from February. The notification was issued on Wednesday (January 18) at noon. The new price of gas including subsidy is mentioned in the notification. In this phase, the gas prices of electricity, industrial and commercial sectors have been increased. Residential, CNG and tea industry gas prices remain unchanged.

In the notification, the price of gas supplied to the power sector has been increased from Tk 5 2 paise to Tk 14 per cubic meter. Besides, the price of gas in the industrial sector has been increased from Tk 16 to Tk 30. Further , the price of gas per cubic meter has been increased from Tk 16 to Tk 30 per cubic meter in captive power sector, Tk 30 from Tk 11 98 paise in large industries, Tk 30 from Tk 11 78 paise in medium industries and Tk 10.78 in small industries. It has been increased from Rs. The price of commercial gas connection has been increased from 26 taka 64 paisa to 30 taka 50 paisa per cubic meter.

In the notification, the price of one stove for residential customers has been kept at Tk 990 and the price of two stoves has been kept at Tk 1080. CNG has also been kept at Tk 43 per cubic meter and tea industry gas price at Tk 11 93 paise per cubic meter as before. The price of gas used in fertilizer factories has also been kept at Tk 16 as before. On January 12, the Ministry of Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources issued a notification to increase the retail price of electricity by five percent at the consumer level. Within a week, the price of gas was increased.

Meanwhile, in an event on January 9, Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that oil and gas prices in the country will be adjusted with the world market . Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) increased the price of gas by 22.78 percent in June last year. At that time 259 percent in fertilizer production, 11.96 percent in industry (Tk 11.98 in large scale industry, Tk 11.78 in medium industry, Tk 10.78 in small and cottage industry, Tk 11.93 in tea industry), 12 percent in electricity, 15 in captive .5 percent price increase. 

Apart from this, the price of one stove has been increased from Tk 950 to Tk 990, two stoves have been increased from Tk 975 to Tk 1080. The price per unit for residential customers using pre-paid meters has been increased from Tk 12.60 to Tk 18, and for fertilizer production from Tk 4.45 to Tk 16 per cubic meter.
