Road accident in Habiganj, death toll rises to 5

News Desk: A collision between four vehicles took place in Madhavpur area of ​​Habiganj due to dense fog. The death toll has increased to 5. Five others were injured in this incident.

The deceased are Salam Mia (35), Sihab Mia (12), Safia Begum (20), Safia Begum (20), Habiba Jannat, a 1-year-old child of Safia and Satir Ali (35), a microbus driver of Dasbhag village of the same upazila.

The incident took place in front of Matador Company in Shahpur New Bazar area of ​​Dhaka-Sylhet highway of Madhavpur upazila early on Saturday (January 7).

Naushad Ahmed of Shuknadi village, a relative of the deceased, said that on Friday (January 6) afternoon, they went to Dhaka to fetch Salam Miah, a Malaysian expatriate, from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

He also said that on the same day night, on the way back from Dhaka, their microbus collided with a truck coming from Sylhet when they reached Shahpur Newbazar area of ​​the upazila in thick fog. Five people died on the spot, including the driver and the child in the microbus. At this time, the passenger of the same microbus, Raju Ahmed and his father Noor Islam, along with an old man, were injured. They have been admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Madhavpur police station and Shaistaganj highway police went to the spot and recovered the dead bodies and the cars involved in the accident. The injured were sent to Upazila Health Complex.

Confirming the matter, Madhavpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdur Razzak said, heavy fog fell at night, due to which the accident is believed to have occurred.

He also said that all the victims are residents of Samshernagar in Moulvibazar. The cars involved in the accident have been impounded. The process of handing over the bodies of the five deceased to their relatives is underway.
