News desk:  Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated the free textbook distribution program among students of different levels in the academic year 2023. The Prime Minister formally inaugurated the program by handing over books to the students from the Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister's Office on Saturday morning.

At this time, Education Minister Dipu Moni, Education Deputy Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel, State Minister of Primary and Mass Education Md. Ministry officials including Zakir Hossain were present.

The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education will celebrate Central Textbook Festival tomorrow, Sunday, January 1st.

Secondary level book festival will be organized by Government Pilot High School of Kapasia Upazila of Gazipur on behalf of Ministry of Education. And the central festival of elementary level books will be held at the playground of Dhaka University. Ministers of the two ministries, state ministers, secretaries and distinguished persons, officials, teachers and students will be present in the ceremony.

About 35 crore textbooks are slated to be printed for the 2023 academic year, NCTB said. Out of this, primary level textbooks are about 10 crores. The remaining 25 crores are books of secondary and other subjects. While it is possible to deliver 80 percent of secondary level books to the district before the book festival, it will be difficult to reach a large portion of primary books. Such a situation has arisen due to the late start of printing of primary books.
