High Commissioner Pranay Verma visited Sylhet

Newsdesk: During his two-day visit to Sylhet Division on 14-15 December 2022, High Commissioner Pranay Verma visited some important cross-border connectivity and development projects under India-Bangladesh Development Partnership. These included the Integrated Check Post (ICP) being constructed by India at the Dawki-Tamabil border, which will greatly facilitate movement of goods and people across the border.

High Commissioner also travelled to the newly operationalized Border Haat linking local traders from Bagan Bari in Sunamgunj District of Bangladesh and Ryngku of East Khasi District of Meghalaya. He interacted with the members of the Border Haat Management Committee and traders from both sides and discussed ways to enhance trade for the benefit of local population.

High Commissioner also visited some of the High Impact Community Development Projects implemented with Government of India funding as part of development of infrastructure for education and environment of Sylhet City. These included a five-storied women’s hostel for 160 students in Sylhet city, development of Dhupadighirpar area with a five-storied kindergarten school, a high school, a six-storied building for the workers of city corporation and a road around the Dupadighi pond area. These projects have raised the quality of life of local residents and contributed to the socio-economic development in the area.

High Commissioner Verma also visited the graveyards of martyrs of Bangladesh Liberation War near the Tamabil zero point and paid homage to the brave freedom fighters and soldiers from both Bangladesh and India, whose shared sacrifices continue to inspire India-Bangladesh friendship.
